Different types of information system have been deployed in healthcare organization for the purpose of handling healthcare records in a more efficient way. Nevertheless, in deploying HIS, healthcare practitioners’ resistances to use the system while other barriers remains to be a crucial concern in effectively adopting HIS. This paper attempts to review the barriers towards adopting HIS. It starts with secondary data collection. Four barriers were identified through searching using selected keywords from on-line databases. Interviews with THREE (3) HIS experts were conducted. A conceptual model was then proposed depicting financial, data integration, organizational IT policy and user perception that may influence the adoption of HIS. This in-progress study will proceed in testing the proposed conceptual model using cross-sectional study in selected healthcare organizations in Malaysia. © 2014 American Scientific Publishers.
