Abstract: The Malaysian government recently announced that an additional 2000MW capacity needs to be constructed in order to sufficiently meet the rapidly growing electricity demand in Peninsular Malaysia. At the moment, the generation technology under consideration is coal fuel. This paper considers other generation technology options for the additional capacity, namely nuclear, solar thermal and biomass. Comparison will be based on three criteria; economic cost, reliability and socio-environment cost. The two-phase K-best dynamic programming trade-off method will be used for the comparisons.
