dc.description.abstractThis paper discusses the technical and economic analysis for an installation of PV-battery system to minimize grid dependency of selected rural areas in Malaysia. A remote located school is selected for this study as it represents typical remote schools in this country. The selected school is Sekolah Kebangsaan Orang Asli Sungai Bumbun. The school located in a village located on Carey Island in Kuala Langat district of Selangor, Malaysia. The study starts with data collection such as load profile alongside solar radiation and ambient temperature. Hybrid optimization software was used to determine the optimal hybrid system configuration for the school. Then, sensitivity analysis is performed to identify optimal configurations with respect to changes in grid price, interest rate and load profile. The potential hybrid configurations were compared best on Net Present Cost (NPC), Levelized Cost of Energy (LCOE), Carbon dioxide (CO2) and renewable energy fraction. The most optimal configurations for PV-battery-grid system for the school is 3 kW PV with 7 kWh battery storage system. © 2019 IEEE.en_US
