Abstract: One of the most important stage in network planning is the prediction of the propagation path loss. This is to predict the behavior of propagation in various environments. In this paper, three propagation models are compared to find the most suitable model for rural area. The models studied are SUI, Hata and COST-231 which are being simulated using MATLAB. The parameters used are the same for all three algorithms for comparison purposes. The results show that Hata model has the lowest path loss followed by SUI and COST-231. Hence, it can be concluded that Hata model is the most suitable model for rural area since it produces the smallest amount of path loss.
